The Man in the Arena

One of my favorite quotes came from a speech that President Teddy Roosevelt gave at the Sorbonne in Paris on April 23,1910.  It's about the doer of deeds & the critic who can find fault with failure & it goes like this:

“It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.”

In these days of political correctness I want you to read the quote as applying to both men and women.   I recently discovered a company whose CEO has designed a simple, powerful, life-changing gold & Silver Program that offers its members the ability to buy gold & silver at near dealer prices,  an automated system & tools to help you spread the word over the internet,  & a compensation plan that enables even newbies to be in profit fast.  The CEO actually listened to the the feedback from the men & women who are in the arena & made changes  in the program & compensation plan based on their recommendations. Have you heard of that ever being  done?A superior vision & a strong company wide work ethic will achieve outsized results,  growth  &  profits for his affiliate members.  The program is designed from the standpoint of the Man (& Woman)  in the arena because if it works for him or her it will build a credibility that will lead to sustainability & longevity & a whole bunch of happy workers.

Years ago a college buddy of mine went on a job interview that went very well right up until the interviewer asked my friend what his major was.  When he replied "Philosophy"  the interviewer groaned & said "oh no,  Al,  I thought we had a fit but my company needs "doers not thinkers".
